UWR: Sissala East MP introduced skills training program for women

 

The Member of Parliament for Sissala East Constituency in the Upper West Region, Hon. Issahaku Amidu Chinnia has introduced skills training program. This initiative is aimed at mitigating the widespread of unemployment among women in the area.

At a ceremony to unveil the program on Monday, 1st March, 2021, the Legislator distributed 100 sewing machines to some selected women in the constituency.

He also donated GHS 2,000 and some materials on behalf of the second lady, Shamira Bawumia to help train the women to acquire skills in the area of soap making.

According to the MP, the initiative is in fulfillment with the promise he made to the people towards reducing the high rate of unemployment in the area.

“During the 2020 election, there are barrage of issues I promise to deal with if elected as Member of Parliament for the constituency. Among them is the unemployment situation we have to address.” he said.

Hon. Issahaku Chinnia expressed worry over issue of unemployment especially among the young people across the constituency and added that the initiative could empower them.

He added that “the surest way to providing jobs is skills development, so I have decided as MP to help develop the skills of the people so that they can have something doing on their own”.

A beneficiary, Nurugan Agnes thanked the MP for his support and encouraged his colleagues and the youth to embrace the skills training program as it offers a source of livelihood to them and their families.
