Takpo RC Basic School Pleads for JHS Block

By Albert Dapare

Takpo Datuoyiri in the Nadowli/Kaleo district of the Upper West Region has no Junior High School (JHS) facility as the Takpo R/C primary school cannot accommodate more pupils.

Apart from lacking a JHS block, the school’s furniture is inadequate and according to the school management committee chairman (SMC), Alaba Konyikpeba, parents were levied to repair the broken furniture and to acquire new ones.

He disclosed that the only nearby JHS is located at Takpo which is far from Datuoyiri and pupils have to walk for several hours to get there.

This, according Mr Alaba, compels pupils particularly girls who graduate from primary six at Takpo RC school to neglect school and do not get the chance to write the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The school introduced JHS 1 for this academic year but risk learning under trees in the next academic year if nothing is done.

Mr Alaba noted that the District Assembly have neglected the community as several appeals made by the school authority for the construction of school blocks have fallen on death ears.

He went ahead to indicate that the Form ones are currently occupying a classroom which is meant for the class one pupils.

The School Management committee committee chairman said the situation is worrying while calling on the municipal assembly and member of parliament (MP) to come to their aid.

Takpo Tuori Assembly Member, Luke Yemeh explained that he has been making follow ups at the district assembly regarding the situation  and expressed optimism that the assembly would provide the JHS block in due course.

Meanwhile when Home radio news contacted the DCE, Hon Katherine Lankono, she stated that the situation has not come to her notice while saying she would respond to the issue in the next few days.

Takpo RC basic school, is located in Takpo Datuoyiri in the Nadowli Kaleo district of the Upper West region.

The school has a total population of Two Hundred and Sixty pupils with Fifteen of them in their first year of Junior High School (JHS).
