DBI’s best farmer encourages youth to venture into farming

The greatest farmer overall in the Daffiama Bussie Issa District, Sunday Batieminey, has urged young people to embrace farming because it is rewarding rather than to dislike it.

The 38th annual Farmers Day event in DBI was held in Moyiri, a predominantly farming community where deserving farmers were awarded.

While John Bosco Bamuriba of Dakyie was adjudged the 1st runner up, Mary Ngmenyogle of Moyiri was 2nd runner up.

Sunday Batieminey, who was overjoyed, told Home Radio News Albert Dapare that because he has worked so hard over the years in farming, the prize never came as a surprise to him.

Tiereke Nicholas, the district director of agriculture for DBI, highlighted the difficulties facing the agricultural industry during his remarks.

According to him, some of the difficulties the agricultural department has are inadequate staff, housing, and logistics like motorbikes and protective clothing for extension service.

The District Chief Executive, Nadi Imoro Sanda, was gushing with admiration for the gallant farmers for providing food to feed the country.

He claimed that the Assembly had done a great job of supporting farmers’ development and general well-being while urging them to collaborate with extension agents to adopt best farming practices.

Additionally, he took the chance to congratulate Antika Company Ltd., Ussuya Ghana Limited, GIZ-Reach, and GIZ-Moap for their enormous contributions to farming in the region and the yearly farmers’ day celebrations.
