14,585 candidates sit for BECE in the Upper West Region

A total of 14,585 candidates are sitting for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) across the Upper West Region, out of which 7,258 were boys and 7,328 were girls.

In the Wa Municipality, 3,825 candidates were sitting for the exam, Sissala East Municipality 1,241, Sissala West District, 1,244, Lambussie 917, Nandom 1,014 Lawra 998, Jirapa 1405, Nadowli-Kaleo 957, Daffiama-Bussie-Issa 464, Wa West 1,493 and Wa East District 1,027.

The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin-Salih who visited some selected centers with the Regional and Municipal education directors encouraged the candidates to do well in the exams.

The Minister and his entourage toured Wa senior high school, Wa Technical Institute and Wa Methodist School for the Blind and expressed confidence in the pupils.

He urged the candidates to write the exams with courage to enable them come out with flying colors and to stand the chance of benefitting from the free senior high school policy.

He advised the candidates to do away with any foreign materials but follow the examination rules and regulations.

The Upper West Regional Director of GES, Mr. Razak Abdul -Korah was optimistic that the pupils will be successful in the exams.

He urged the supervisors, invigilators and the pupils to be circumspect in the course of the exam saying “don’t do anything that will mar the image of the exam.”
