Wa Municipal: 38-year-old Issahaku Tungbani Wins Best Farmer at 37th National Farmers Day

A 38-year-old Issahaku Tungbani from Bihee has been crowned the overall best farmer at the 37th National Farmers Day celebration in the Wa Municipality Assembly of the Upper West Region.

Mr Tugbani ploughed an acreage of over 90 acres where he grew different food commodities, like watermelon, maize, beans, groundnuts, millet, soya beans etc.

As part of his prize, the Wa Municipal Assembly gave him a tricycle, bags of fertiliser, wellington boots, wax print, weedicides, cutlasses, watering can, pic sacks and some other farm inputs.

He was also given a King Size Mattress and Ghs 2,000 presented by Latex Foam Ghana.

Mr Issahaku Tugbani thanked the Wa Municipal Assembly, Municipal Agric Office and their partner’s for acknowledging their work.

According to him, the secret to his growth in farming is working closely with the municipal agric officers whom he relies on for new methods to improve yields.

He, therefore, called on other farmers to work with the agric officers to improve yields in the coming farming season.

MCE for the Wa Municipal Assembly, Alhaj Issahaku Tahiru Moomeen at the occasion called on Ghanaians to support the Nana Addo led the government to build a resilient economy through agricultural programs like Planting For Food and Jobs.

He revealed that 77,269 has benefited from the Planting for Food and Jobs program this year leading to a marginal increase in acreage from 35,000 acres to 35,612.

” This is a clear manifestation that, the Planting for Food and Jobs and other agricultural programmes instituted by the Nana Addo-led administration is yielding positive results across the country. 25 farmers in Wa Municipal were awarded at the ceremony held at Bihee by the Wa Municipal Assembly on Friday 3rd December 2021.
