UWR: Azumah Resources Ltd to Begin Mining Construction, after Many years of Prospecting

Azumah Resources Ltd, an Australian mining company in the Upper West Region, is expected to begin mining construction in the Upper West Region after obtaining all the needed licenses and Parliamentary approvals.

The company, however, requires a seed capital of $300 Million to commence its mining operations in the region.

This was revealed by Mr Solomon Dery, Community Relations Officer of the Azumah Resources Company Ltd, during an engagement with the media in Wa, on Thursday 17th February 2022.

Azumah Resources Company Ltd has since 2006 been prospecting for Gold in the Upper West Region.

According to Mr Dery, the company has discovered gold deposits at Charikpong and Danyaw-Koraa in the Nadowli-Kaleo and Wa East Districts for surface mining.

The Community Relations Officer disputed claims of the company taking farmlands from farmers to engage in activities as untrue.

He said that the Azumah Resources Company Ltd is currently operating on only 1,485 square kilometres out of the total land size of 18,476 square kilometres of the region.

Mr Dery added that the company has not purchased land from anybody in their prospecting process.

“We have not purchase any land from anyone, we only have a license to prospect for gold, when the time come for us to purchase land, that time will be made public to the owners of the land and other interested parties and negotiation for that payment will not be done by Azumah Resources alone,  but by a committee that will be set up”.

Mr Solomon Dery believes the beginning of mining construction will offer job opportunities to thousands of youth and help reduce the rate of poverty and unemployment in the Upper West region.
