UWR: Dump site at Kambali Market evacuated

The dump site that has overwhelmed Kambali market has been evacuated by the government through the Ministry of Saintaion and Water Resources.

The market which is located at the old slaughter house was abandoned due to the waste that has engulfed the area.

The evacuation was supported by the Upper West Regional coordinating council together with the Wa Municipal assembly in five dump sites in Kambali and Konta electoral areas in the Wa municipality.

Speaking to the media, the Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih described the intervention as appropriate and necessary and therefore called on the people to adopt good sanitation practices to keep Ghana clean.

In his part, the Wa Municipal Chief Executive, Issahaku Tahiru Moomin described the situation as appalling while indicating that the dump site will be relocated with the provision of some communal containers to the community.

According to him, the area has no history as a dump site and blamed the situation on the wrong attitude of the people.

He appealed to the people not to let their own actions generate health concerns in the community and therefore urged them to stop dumping refuse indiscriminately.

The nationwide evacuation exercise has been carried out by Zoomlion Ghana limited across the sixteen regions in Ghana as part of government’s effort to make the country clean.
