False reports of criminal activity are placing strain on the security authorities, according to Ibn Yussif Duranah A. Seidu, the public relations officer for the Ghana Immigration Service in the Upper West Region.

He stated this at a news conference called by Wa Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV in reaction to the rising number of alleged ritual killing incidents in the Wa Municipality.

After a video of some individuals thought to be terrorists in various areas of the region went viral, terrorism became a topic of speculation in the Upper West Region.

Therefore, Ibn Yussif recommended the population to exercise caution in what they post on social media in order to avoid undue strain on the security infrastructure.

“The false alarms are putting undue pressure on the security agencies in Upper West and we suggest that, please whatever you want to put out to the public domain in this era of sophistication of technology, you might be in your room and just type something and forward it, the next minute it is all over the place and thy is putting pressure on the security agencies,” he said.

He further pleaded with the citizenry to stop tampering with the security forces, as they are the last line of defense for the protection of people and property.

“Let us reduce the bastardization of the security agencies, particularly the police because whatever be the case, we are called to intervene but now and then, the security agencies record series of insults and attacks as if we are doing nothing but we are doing everything.”

The Overlord of the Waala Traditional Area, Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV, has called for concerted action to prevent further increase of criminal activity in the Wa Municipality.

Speaking on behalf of Wa Naa, Jinpenhi Naa Kadiri Ibrahim said that the public’s lack of security awareness is to blame for the rise in criminal activities.

Recently, the Wa Municipality gained undeserved attention when three killings were reported in as many months.

Because some of their organs were missing and their bodies had been cut open, several people suspected they had been ritualistically slaughtered. The scenario has many residents worried and they worry that they could be the next victims.

Naa Kadiri Ibrahim claims that because shady characters are permitted to continue out their activities and are covered up for doing so at the expense of everyone else’s safety, society is complicit in the deaths.

In order to make the work of the security forces relevant, he urged the residents to remain vigilant, view security as a shared responsibility, and try to offer information.

According to Jinpenhi Naa Kadiri, the criminals’ desire to amass fortune without working hard in an era when wealth is treasured regardless of where it comes from was the driving force behind their heinous deeds.

The Secretary bemoaned how, if the killings persisted, they would negatively affect both the economical activities in the neighborhood and other parts of society.
