I am heart broken- Dr Hafiz Bin Salih bemoan the havoc caused by heavy rain

Dr Hafiz Bon Salih, the Upper West Regional Minister has said the havoc caused by torrential rain has broken his heart.

The Minister made this known on Saturday, 14th August, 2021 when he toured the affected areas to assess the extend of damage caused by the rain.

“What has happened has taken the Upper West Region backwards. It will need massive intervention for us to get back to where we were 3 or 4 days ago.” He bemoaned

He assured that government will do everything within its power to work on the roads and indicated that department of feeder roads and Ghana Highway authority will send officials from the head quarters in Accra to augment what their officials on grounds have been doing.

Some of the major roads damaged by the heavy rain include but not limited to Wa-Nadowli at Goriyiri, Sombo-Daffiama and Nadowli Babile at Yiziri.

Other untarred roads that were cut off include Daffiama -Nadowli road around Tuori and Mawari, and Daffiama-Busia.

According to the Wa Road Area Manager, Vivian KangKpeyeng, the damage caused on the Goriyiri-Nadowli stretch is devastating.

“The damage is so serious. As we can all see, is so devastating. That is how I can say about it. The road has actually been washed off.” She indicated.

Madam Vivian advised commuters who travel from Wa to Nandom to use the Wa-Han road which will subsequently lead them to Jirapa-Domwini and to Nandom.

Those who also travel from Wa-Nadowli are advised to also use the Wa-Han road to Sabuli and Togbari enroute to Nadowli.

She said the destruction caused on the road was not as a result of inadequate culverts but the rain was heavy.
