Wa: Automobile Users Engaged In Selective Buying Of Fuel

Users of mottobikes , tricycles, cars and trucks in the Upper West Region have been compelled to buy fuel from designated Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) due to the disparities in prices.

The price per liter of fuel has reached an all high in Ghana with Petrol prices reaching almost GHC18.00.

This has culminated a recent 19% increase in transportation fares in recent times amidst economic meltdown.

The unbearable cost of fuel has caused some vehicular users to park them and opt for mottobikes as their main means of transportation.

A visit to some OMCs in Wa, which include Goil, Total and Zen showed that the number of people at these fuel stations differed which has a correlation between prices.

Zen, which is the OMC in Wa with the least price (16.55) is currently enjoying the highest patronage followed by Goil.

Meanwhile, speaking to a cross section of vehicular users, they maintained the the use of vehicles is gradually getting impossible.

Mr. Adams Rahaman, a driver of an urvan bus who commutes the Wa-Techiman road says he has been compelled to suspend travels due to the high cost of diesel.

On his part, Mr. Haruna Abubakari a tricycle rider who uses it for commercial purpose said previously he used to buy fuel daily for his routines for about fifty Ghana cedis. He however pleaded with government to devise ingenious means of reducing the price of fuel.
