Lawra-Han road re-awarded for construction

The Member of Parliament for Lawra Constituency, Bede A. Ziedeng has praised the Ministry of Roads and Highway for re-awarding the Lawra-Han Road project to a different contractor.

On Tuesday 17, January, 2023 the Ghana Highway Authority in the Upper West Region led by the Regional maintenance manager ING. Solomon Adjei cuts sod for the reconstruction of the road by a different Contractor by name Bunas Company Limited.

The road was first awarded on contract in 2016 by the NDC government but was later abrogated under the ruling government.

Speaking at the sod cutting ceremony, the Member of Parliament for Lawra Constituency Hon. Bede A. Ziedeng expressed his profound gratitude to the government through the ministry of roads and Highway for re-awarding the project which links his onstituency to Han in the Jirapa Municipality of the Upper West Region.

According to him, he filed several questions on the floor of Parliament on the progress of work on the Lawra-Han road and many other roads across the constitiency.

“Today, I am extremely happy, that the Lawra – Han road will be tarred. The contract was terminated after it has been awarded in 2016, and now it is awarded again for work to start” he stated.

He thanked the Minister for roads and Highways for redeeming his promise on the project while indicating his belief in the Minister to continue to work on the other roads dotted across constituency.

He noted that the road when completed would reduce accidents commuters who ply road daily.

He then called on the contractor to conduct himself well in the discharge of his duties and try as much as possible to make sure that the project is completed on schedule to avoid any disappointment again.

In a short speech, the Regional Highway Authority led by the Regional maintenance manager, ING. Solomon Adjei mentioned that the upgrading of the Lawra – Han road project has become necessary insisting that is why it was repackaged and re-awarded.

He said, the total length of the road linking Lawra to Han is about 45 kilometers and divided into various stages to fast-track the construction.

The contract is funded by the government of Ghana from the consolidated funds with a sum of Ghc 14, 838, 636 and is supposed to be completed in 12 calendar months.

But interestingly, officials from the Lawra Municipal Assembly was not seen at the occasion and our checks indicated that they were not informed about the program.
