NPP Decides: Former Wa Central Constituency Chairman Endorses DMB Project

Former Wa Central NPP constituency Chairman, Ali Karim Kunsampuo Kamara has thrown his weight behind HE Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ahead of the Presidential Primaries.

The former Constituency Chairman issued a detailed communique endorsing his compatriot as seen below:

The New Patriotic Party is a party with strong fundamentals emanating from different political parties across the country. Some of the political parties that formed UP that transformed into the New Patriotic Party include the National Liberation Council (NLC), Northern People’s Party (NPP), Anlo Youth Organisation (AYO), Muslims Association Party (MAP), etc.

This party involved every traditional group in Ghana and was highly regarded as the most well-organized political party.

With the history and issues surrounding the party since independence, no one can sincerely boast much about the party’s ownership. We all know what the NPP has done and can do in the developmental structure of Ghana. The party belongs to every well-meaning Ghanaian that subscribes to the values of the party and not those being propagated by a minute section of the party for their own gains.

We, as members of the NPP, need to guard our tradition very well to avoid distortions. The party is not for the Ashantis, Akyems, Gas, nor Northerners. All these tribal groups championed its formation collectively, and we are currently enjoying its current strength. The New Patriotic Party came to power for the first time in 2001 after winning the 2000 general elections with H.E. John Agyekum Kuffour as the presidential candidate and the late Alhaj Aliu Mahama as the running mate.

We (NPP) had a better performance and, moving into the 2008 general elections, J. A. Kuffour warned of giving leadership to anyone that would cause disunity in the party. He (Kuffour) first indicated that he had found a successor, who was the late Alhaj Aliu Mahama, but he ditched him and brought Mr. Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten in the latter days leading to the presidential primaries. Every well-meaning Ghanaian knew it was a stab in the back of Alhaj Aliu Mahama during those times and delegates endorsed His Excellency Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo. These internal twists and turns affected the party in the 2008 general elections.
The case of Aliu Mahama should be a warning to all members of our great party. In our current days of governance, we have a strong and dedicated young man who is already deputizing the president of the republic and has demonstrated much competence in leadership. Much has been said about how the party sees northerners and former president John Dramani Mahama once said Alhaj Mahamudu Bawumia will be shown where he belongs when he tries to succeed President Nana Akuffo Addo.

In order to prove Ghanaians wrong by endorsing a foreigner in the 2024 general elections, our venerable Vice President is in pole position to grab.

There are certain people in our political environment whose words or actions can seriously damage the party moving into the presidential primaries. His Excellency Nana Addo should sanction them to stay mute in commentaries leading to the presidential primaries. Such people include Gabby Otchere-Darko and Yaw Osofo Marfo.

The party needs to conduct this in the coming presidential primaries devoid of tribal attacks. We have great personalities that can all lead the party, including Dr. Bawumia, Alan Kyeremanten, Kennedy Agyapong, and even our very own Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih.

We should not give way to some of the things that hurt us in 2008 to repeat. With the votes in the first round of the 2008 elections, it surprised many as to how a party could get those votes in a third bid for power, but we unfortunately lost in the second round and finally in Tain Constituency. The NPP can turn things around and boost the economy, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the competent general in this battle.

All we need is power to continue the numerous developmental policies, and winning the 2024 general elections requires unity within the party. As earlier indicated, the president needs to give his vice president the chance to operate in the last gasp of the second term to help define his competence to the people of Ghana.

I want to humbly appeal to the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, H.E. Nana Addo, to give Dr. Alhaj Mahamudu Bawumia clear grounds to showcase his abilities for a brighter election. Mr. President, as you once said, Dr. Bawumia is competent to succeed. Give him the support he needs to help a dream come through for the party in breaking the eight (8).

The party needs to unite and foster peace in party activities across the country. In the Upper West Region, we are a set of different tribal groups such as waala, dagaabas, sissala, hausa, moshi, etc., and have lived peacefully without political parties. This is something the nation should try to emulate to sustain the peace we currently enjoy.

Long live Npp,
DR. Bawumia, best to lead.
God bless our homeland Ghana

Ali Karim Kamaara
Former Wa Central Chairman
