UWR: We are uncertain when the Covid-19 vaccination will start – Dr. Damien Punguyire

The Upper West Regional Director of the Ghana Health Services, Dr. Damien Punguyire has revealed they are no specific timelines for the start of administering the Covid -19 vaccines in the Upper West region.

Dr. Damien Puguyiri in an interview on Home Radio on Thursday, 11th March 2021 said ” we do not know when exactly the vaccination will start, we are following the National deployment plan, and we expect soon the Upper West Region will get its share”.

Ghana has started the administering of Covid -19 vaccines after receiving 600,000 doses of the AstraZeneca from COVAX.

The Government of Ghana outlined a national deployment program for vaccination across the country starting with three (3) regions out of the 16 regions.

Hence the vaccines are yet to be administered in most parts of the country including the Upper West Region.

He revealed there are preparations along with public education ahead of the arrival of the vaccine.

The Regional Director called on the public to make themselves available for vaccination when the time comes.

He further urged the public to disregard the suspicions around the vaccines, He said ” we do not have evidence that these vaccines can harm people but on the contrary countries that are using them have cases going down”.
