In a surprising turn of events, Awudu Ishaq, the General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), has declared his intention to contest the Wa Central Constituency parliamentary seat in the 2028 elections.

The announcement was made during an exclusive interview with Adil Supremo on the popular Tegyaayela Show, sparking widespread discussion within political circles.

Ishaq, a seasoned ,b executive with extensive experience at the constituency, regional, and national levels, revealed that he will not seek re-election as General Secretary. Instead, he is setting his sights on representing Wa Central in Ghana’s Parliament. “I have enough as a party executive,” Ishaq stated during the interview. “From the constituency to the regional and national levels, I have served diligently. Now, I will be contesting for the Wa Central Constituency Parliamentary Elections.”

The declaration marks a significant shift in Ishaq’s political career, as he transitions from a behind-the-scenes leadership role within the PNC to a frontline contender in one of Ghana’s key constituencies. Wa Central, located in the Upper West Region, has long been a politically competitive area, and Ishaq’s entry into the race is expected to intensify the contest come 2028.

Supporters of Ishaq have already begun rallying behind his candidacy, with the hashtag #AWI4WC (Awudu Ishaq for Wa Central) gaining traction on social media platforms. His tenure as General Secretary has been noted for its focus on grassroots mobilization and party unity, qualities his backers believe will serve him well in his parliamentary bid.

While Ishaq did not elaborate on his specific policy agenda during the interview, political analysts anticipate that his campaign will emphasize development, youth empowerment, and addressing the socio-economic challenges facing Wa Central. His deep ties to the constituency and extensive experience within the PNC could give him a strong foundation as he prepares for the race.

The 2028 elections are still years away, but Ishaq’s early announcement signals his determination to build momentum and connect with voters ahead of what promises to be a fiercely contested election. For now, the PNC stalwart appears ready to trade his executive role for a shot at legislative leadership, leaving the political landscape abuzz with speculation.

More details on Ishaq’s campaign plans are expected to emerge as he begins to outline his vision for Wa Central in the coming months
