A Community Chief (Divisional Chief) at Wasai in the Sissala West district, Kuoro Alhaji Abu Kuntulo Dinbon II, and residents held a press conference on Sunday, May 18, 2025, to appeal for infrastructure support for the Wasai Basic School. The Chief specifically requested support to complete a community-initiated classrooms block for KG to Junior High School.

The existing school structure is insufficient to accommodate children from KG to JHS level, resulting in limited classrooms and forcing teachers to combine classes (KG+P1, P2+P3, P4+P5, etc.) into one classroom. The community has been running a Junior High School system for several years without a dedicated JHS block, using part of the primary school block instead.

Mr. Abdul-Rahman Dauda Kuntulo, who read the press statement on behalf of the Chief, said the community has initiated a project to construct a two-unit classroom block for Kindergarten pupils, which is currently at the window level. They are calling on the government, through the Member of Parliament for Sissala West district, to support the construction of four additional classrooms needed for JHS and primary pupils.

The Chief also highlighted challenges related to poor road network connectivity within the district, particularly the road linking Wasai to Hain through Wa and the district capital. Mad. Fati Wasai-Bobtoya, a retired nutritionist, expressed her disappointment with the terrible road conditions, which affect healthcare delivery and make it difficult for pregnant women to access skilled delivery.

The Assembly Member for the area (Niator Electoral Area), Hon. Kuntulo Mustapha, reiterated the challenges, particularly regarding healthcare. He noted that snakebite cases are prevalent during the rainy season, and the unavailability of antivenom at the Wasai CHPS and other facilities within the electoral area exacerbates the situation. Hon. Mustapha called on the Ghana Health Service and the government to make the vaccine available at health facilities within the district.
