In a bid to promote peace and stability in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District, Hon. Toobu Lanchene Peter, the Member of Parliament for Wa West Constituency, led the Dagaaba Youth Association of the Savannah Region on a peace-building mission to the area. The tour, which took place on August 28, 2025, aimed to console bereaved families, assess the situation on the ground, and encourage traditional leaders to provide guidance towards the return of peace.

During the tour, Hon. Peter and the Dagaaba Youth Association visited the palaces of the Tuna Wura, Kalba Wura, Kong Wura, and Sawla Wura. The Overlord of the Bole Traditional Council, who was passing through the Sawla Wura’s palace, met with the delegation and reaffirmed the importance of peace in promoting development.

Here is the full write-up by Hon. Toobu Lanchene Peter:

“Yesterday, 28th August 2025, I took a bold step to lead the Dagaaba Youth Association of the Savannah Region to the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District to console bereaved families, assess the situation on the ground, and encourage our traditional leaders to provide guidance as we seek the return of peace. The tour took my team and I to the palaces of the Tuna Wura, Kalba Wura, Kong Wura, and Sawla Wura. By providence, the Overlord of the Bole Traditional Council, who was returning from Accra, passed through the Sawla Wura’s palace and met us there. All the traditional leaders reaffirmed their belief that peace is the foundation of development. They acknowledged that the prolonged presence of men and women in uniform in the area would derail the region’s growth. Allowing government resources to be diverted into security operations instead of development is not a path that benefits our people. The Overlord of the Bole Traditional Council and the four chiefs all expressed optimism about the return of peace. We have no reason to doubt their sincerity in these assurances.

At Sawla, we also visited internally displaced persons being accommodated at the Sawla Police Station. I spoke passionately to the vulnerable children and women, assuring them of an early resolution to the impasse. It was a sad and deeply emotional scene. To support their upkeep, an amount of GHS 3,000 was donated to the NADMO Director to aid in the feeding of these victims of the conflict.

The 12-hour tour, which began at 6 a.m., concluded at 6 p.m. with the start of the curfew. On behalf of the Dagaaba delegation of the Savannah Region, I wish to extend our deepest gratitude to the esteemed Overlord of the Bole Traditional Area, Bolewura Sarfo Kutuge Feso I, Kongwura Adamu Seidu Jenkurige (I), Tunawura Safo Amantana, Kalbawura Alhaji Amalia Saaka, and Sawlawura Abdulai Iddrisu Nugbaso for the warm reception accorded us during our visit. We remain most grateful for your patience in listening to our plea and for your expressed commitment to restoring calm and fostering peace in the area. Your leadership and wisdom remain a beacon of hope for our people, and we stand ready to support every effort that promotes unity and development.”

The Dagaaba Youth Association and the traditional leaders remain committed to working together towards a peaceful and prosperous Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District. The tour marked an important step towards healing and rebuilding the community, and it is hoped that the efforts of Hon. Peter and the Dagaaba Youth Association will contribute to a lasting peace in the area.
