In one of the rural communities within the Upper West Region, an extraordinary act of courage and professionalism unfolded the quiet heroism often found among rural health workers.

A pregnant woman who had been referred to the Wa Municipal Hospital for delivery unexpectedly went into labor while en route to the facility.

Her husband, frightened and helpless stood by the roadside unsure of how to save his wife and unborn child.

Providence intervened when Senior Enrolled Nurse Iddris Abdul Latif of Gudaayiri CHPS happened to be passing by.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Nurse Latif immediately stopped to offer assistance. After assessing the woman condition, he guided her into a nearby bush to ensure some privacy and safety.

With no medical equipment, sterile tools or support staff. Nurse Latif relied entirely on his training, experience and composure.

Under those difficult and unhygienic conditions he successfully delivered the baby, saving both mother and child.

It highlights the dedication of frontline workers who serve tirelessly in remote areas often without adequate resources or incentives.

Nurse Latif intervention is a reminder that healthcare delivery extends far beyond the walls of hospitals.

His actions call for recognition from the Ghana Health Service and relevant authorities not only to honor his individual bravery but to celebrate the countless unsung heroes working under similar conditions across the country.

Today, a mother and her child are alive because one health worker chose to act when it mattered most.

Name: Iddris Abdul Latif
