The Amasaman Circuit Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of 17-year-old Alhassan Yunus, a herdsman accused of stealing five sheep valued at GH¢15,000. Yunus allegedly failed to appear before the court after being instructed by the police to do so.
According to the prosecution, led by Police Chief Inspector Frederick Awuah-Ansah, the complainant, Mohammed Seidu, a mechanic residing at Obeyeyie near Amasaman, discovered his sheep were missing on July 18, 2025. A search led to Yunus, who was found with the animals and admitted to the offense, claiming he handed them over to Mariwan Amadu, a trader from Achiaman, to settle a debt.
Amadu was arrested on July 24 and also confessed to receiving the stolen sheep, but claimed they later went out to graze and didn’t return. Yunus and Amadu are expected to face charges of unlawful entry and stealing, and dishonestly receiving, respectively, once Yunus is apprehended.
The court, presided over by Mrs. Akosua Anokyewaa Adjepong, adjourned the matter to December 11, 2025. Upon arrest, Yunus will be arraigned alongside Amadu.
