Maaduuteng residents appeal for the services of a Midwife

Residents of Maaduuteng have urged the Wa West District Health Directorate to provide the community with a midwife to cater for the growing health needs of pregnant women.

The residents made this appeal during a quarterly community durbar and community participation in CHPS Zone activities organized by the sub-district In-charge, Mr. Emmanuel Kutina on Wednesday, 18 January, 2023.

The community is a predominantly farming community under GA Electoral area with a population of 1, 161.

Speaking at the durbar, the residents led by the health Committee Chairman and a focal person of the Community, Mr. Dagyile Ertunatey thanked the Wa West District Assembly and Ghana Health Service for giving them a befitting CHPS Compound.

According to them, the facility has been operating without a midwife for the past 9 months which compels pregnant women to travel to Poyentenga and Nyoli for medical services.

Lack of the services of a midwife, Motorbike, delivery beds, and drugs are some of the teething challenges affecting the effectiveness of the facility.

The residents however called for support to address the problems confronting health delivery in the community and its adjoining communities.

He called on the Chief’s and stakeholders’ intervention to address the problem to ensure better healthcare delivery in the communities and the Wa West district at large.

The Chief of Baalaaboi (Maaduuteng) who chaired the function also called on philanthropists to provide a refrigerator to the facility for the storage of essential drugs that are meant for Immunization.

He also said there is an existing bye-law in response to the lack of participation of residents in health-related programs as he assured the In-charge that the situation will be better.

He placed Ghc 20.00 and Ghc 10. 00 fine respectively on men and women who failed to attend community programs on health and other issues.

Speaking on behalf of the Wa West District Director of health services Madam Cecilia Kakariba, Mr. Kpokpori Jonas, a public health Nurse lauded the Chiefs and people of Maaduuteng for taking good care of the facility.
