UWR: Pronet North supports region with automated hand washing machines

Pronet north Ghana in partnership with Oxfam Ghana have donated touch free hand washing facilities to the Upper West Region in a bid to reduce the further spread of COVID-19.

The items were presented to the Upper West Regional Minister designate at the premises of the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council on Wednesday, 16th February, 2021.

Speaking on behalf of Pronet North, Christian Hayford who is a staff of the organization said the initiative was meant to support institutions in areas that have recorded cases of the pandemic with hand washing facilities.

“With the advent of the COVID-19, a lot of thoughts have been put together to see how the COVID-19 can be contained and in its efforts Oxfam Ghana made some support available and this support actually is to support institutions in areas that have cases of COVID-19 with hand washing facilities.

According to him, the vision will deepen and encourage the culture of hand washing which forms part of measures in containing the spread of COVID-19.

“It has come to the realization that when the culture of handwashing is encouraged, it helps in containing the spread of the COVID-19. It is part of their strategy of reducing the COVID-19 in northern Ghana.” Mr Hayford indicated

He stated that Oxfam Ghana is supporting Pronet North under Northern Ghana with 45 hands-free hand washing facilities which comprises of 30 manual operators and 15 solar powered facilities.

He added that the initiative is an invention from Solar Wash Ghana and as part of equally promoting made in Ghana, Oxfam and Pronet north partnered them to get these products to support hand washing in Ghana.

Mr Hayford explained that the facilities has been distributed in Upper West Region, Upper East Region, Northern Region and North East Region.

He recommended the support of government to expand the production of these machines saying “It’s a really innovative thing which is helping. It is doing more help than we thought earlier on. For us and from the feedback we are even getting from institutions and facilities that have started using this, they recommend mass production of these which will equally need the support of the government.”

“If we get the government to support this initiative we believe it will deepen the hand washing culture in people. Because to be frank with you some people are tired of even touching the Veronica backet to open, to poor soap and all these things.” he added
