Hon. Rashid Pelpuo, Cabinet Minister for Labour and Employment and Member of Parliament for Wa Central, donated 40 bags of cement and GHC 5,000 to the Chiefs and people of Duori in support of a community-initiated maternity ward and laboratory project.
The donation aims to aid the construction of a maternity ward and laboratory facility, bringing maternal healthcare delivery closer to the people of Duori Community and its surroundings. The community had initially built a health facility in 2007 as a CHPS without a maternity room, forcing pregnant women to struggle to access maternal healthcare services and skilled delivery.
Speaking at a brief gathering, Minister Pelpuo acknowledged the community’s efforts in healthcare delivery and pledged his continuing support until the project’s completion. He emphasized the importance of access to quality healthcare delivery in the constituency and noted that this donation is part of his ongoing efforts to support various communities within the municipality.
The Physician Assistant in charge of the Dobile Health Center, Mr. Adabre Michael, highlighted the need to expand and upgrade the old structure to meet the growing population of over 24,000. He appealed for more support in terms of equipment and chairs for the facility.
Naa Sanche-Naa, on behalf of the Duori Chief Naa Abdulai Osman Taasung, expressed profound gratitude to the minister for his unwavering support. The chiefs appealed to benevolent organizations and philanthropists to come to the aid of the community to finish the project and improve healthcare delivery in the community and municipality.
