MTN Ghana on Friday, February 14, 2025, organized a blood donation exercise in Wa, Upper West Region, to mark Valentine’s Day and as part of their annual routine blood donation exercise. The exercise aimed to support the National Blood Service in providing an adequate blood supply to the country and the Upper West Region.
The exercise took place in three institutions within the region: DHTU, UBIDS, and St. Francis Girls SHS. The “Save a Life” initiative encourages people in the Upper West Region to show love by donating blood to support saving lives in hospitals and clinics in the region and beyond.
Speaking at the event in Wa, MTN Ghana’s Regional Manager, Mr. Owusu Seth, emphasized the importance of voluntary blood donation in the region and Ghana as a whole. He noted that since the inception of the MTN Ghana Blood Donation Foundation in 2011, the foundation has collected 29,000 units of blood.
Mr. Seth added that the Upper West Region targeted its quota to support this year’s estimated blood collection rate of 6,100 units of blood across Ghana. Last year, the region collected 260 units of blood.
The manager urged the general public and blood donors to donate blood to save lives, demonstrating love and humility towards those in dire need.
Mr. Ahmed Sahel, a blood donor organizer at the Upper West Regional Hospital, praised the MTN Ghana Foundation for the kind donation exercise supporting blood restoration in the regional hospital and other facilities within the region.
He lamented the challenges of blood supply at hospitals due to the number of patients in need of blood. Mr. Sahel entreated the people in the region to make blood donation a habit to save many lives.
