The management of the Wa Community Co-operative Credit Union (WACCU) has donated five packets of aluminum roofing sheets, totaling 100 pieces and valued at GHS 7,500.00, to the Wa Municipal Education Directorate. This gesture is in support of school structures that were recently destroyed by a rainstorm in the municipality.
The storm caused extensive damage to school buildings, shops, restaurants, and houses, leaving many school children and residents in distress. The donation by WACCU provides much-needed relief, enabling affected schools to begin re-roofing efforts.
Presenting the items on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at the Education Directorate, the Supervisory Manager of WACCU, Mr. Abraham A. Dakurah, told the media that they initially heard about the roof damage at Wa Model School. However, upon further interaction with the school authorities, they learned that several other school buildings were also affected by the storm. He explained that the donation was made in response to this broader need.
Mr. Dakurah emphasized that the contribution is intended to support the Directorate in re-roofing the damaged school structures in time for the upcoming school reopening. He added that the support will go a long way in ensuring the continuity of teaching and learning in the Wa Municipality of the Upper West Region.
He further assured the Directorate that WACCU remains committed to supporting educational development and will continue to offer assistance whenever necessary. Mr. Dakurah was accompanied by some staff members from WACCU during the presentation.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Director, the Deputy Director in charge of Administration and Finance, Mr. Seeninyin Anacletus, expressed profound gratitude to the WACCU management for their generous gesture. He noted that the donation would significantly aid the Directorate in restoring the affected school structures to ensure that children can return to school without delay. He also mentioned that the Directorate is doing everything possible to address the situation promptly.
