SOS Ghana Limited, led by Her Royal Highness H. E. Rev. Dr. Princess Asie Okansey, has announced plans to create over 8,000 job opportunities for Ghanaians abroad through its Work Abroad program.
On Friday, April 11, 2024, Her Royal Highness, accompanied by queen mothers from Accra, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Hon. Dr. Abdul Rashid Pelpuo, to congratulate him and express support for his efforts in driving job creation and reducing unemployment.
According to Her Excellency, SOS Ghana Limited’s Private Employment Agency has secured over 8,000 placements abroad for both skilled and unskilled labourers in various fields, including caregivers, kitchen helpers, welders, and general labourers.
The job opportunities will be offered through a community-based recruitment exercise, where workers will serve as ambassadors for Ghana. The selected workers will sign two-year contracts with options for renewal and will have the opportunity to return to Ghana or extend their stay abroad.
The Minister for Labour, Hon. Dr. Abdul Rashid Pelpuo, commended Her Royal Highness for the bold initiative, emphasizing the importance of protecting migrant workers’ rights through signed contracts that spell out structured salaries and social protection.
Dr. Pelpuo assured that his ministry would work closely with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Youth and Empowerment to sign all labour agreements for international migration, ensuring the well-being and safety of Ghanaian workers abroad.
