Residents of Samatigu appeals to Nadowli/Kaleo DCE to fix deplorable road

The residents of Samatigu, which is located in the Nadowli/Kaleo district of the Upper West Region are pleading with the district chief executive to repair the shoddy road that connects their town to Kaleo and Sankana.

They made this demand during a communal labor that took place on Friday, September 2022, to fill the road’s potholes for easy access.

The Chief of Samatigu, Naa John Anbannye Zinsong, bemoaned the road’s appalling condition and called a bridge connecting his hamlet with Sankana a “death trap.”

According to him, residents are finding it difficult to attend social events in the two settlements and to transport their goods to the Sankana market for trading because of the poor condition of the road.

He appealed to the DCE for Nadowli/Kaleo district, Madam Catherine T. Lankono, for assistance, saying that the bridge is on the verge of collapsing and that it needs immediate attention to avert any future calamity.

Women in the area also lamented the lengthened travel times caused by the poor condition of the road as they struggled to go to sankana market to buy food for their homes and obtain medical care.

The Assembly member for Samatigu Electoral area, Joseph Bagah also reiterated the stress that commuters go through to access the road.

As they try to go to medical services and the sankana market to buy food for their homes, women in the neighborhood have also complained that the poor condition of the road has prolonged journey times.

According to Assemblyman Joseph Bagah, who represents the Samatigu Electoral Area, the Sankana Area Council’s ability to collect taxes is hampered by the low number of traders who frequent the Sankana Market.

He urged the Nadowli/Kaleo constituency member of parliament and the District Assembly to fix the road so that business operations could go without interruption.
