The interim Vice Chancellor of Dr Hilla Liman Technical University, Prof Baba Insah has asked graduands not to be demoralized by the challenge of securing jobs.

He urged some 311 students who took part in the second congregation at the Hilla Liman Technical University to use the training given to them by the University to be self reliant and be seen as job creators and not job seekers.

Addressing the congregation, the Interim Vice Chancellor underscored the importance of the occasion saying “The reason we have assembled here today is to observe the academic tradition of conferring certificates and diploma which we referred to us university congregation.”

“Congregations are very important events in every University. The event marks the climax of several years of hard work on the part of students and commitment and cooperation on the part of administrative staff of the University.”

He explained that Higher National Diploma (HND) was conferred on 311 graduates in the following course areas; Engineering, applied science and technology, applied science and arts and Business Management.

“Three years ago, it was reported that a good number of our staff were staying abroad to acquire doctorate degrees. worthy to note is that, four of them have successfully completed their PHD programs and have joined us to boost faculty. Two other senior staff have completed their 2nd degree programmes and have applied for promotion. This will be done when the committees are fully constituted.” Prof Baba stated

The interim Vice Chancellor noted that through the University’s GETFUND allocation, a number of projects are at various stages of construction.

“A 49 staff unit flat is under construction and yet to be completed. The staff flat is about 80% complete and we hope and pray it will be finished soon for staff to be housed on campus. Notably under construction on campus is our inner roads. The ministry of roads through the regional coordinating council awarded the inner roads for construction. The contractor has completed work on the drainage and it’s left with sealing of the roads on campus.” he explained

He used the opportunity to appeal to the government through the regional Minister to come to their aid with a student’s hostel and to protect the University’s land from encroachments.

“Dear to our hearts is the student hostel project that has been at a standstill for several years. This University is the only University without a student hostel. I am by this using the opportunity to make a special request and passionate appeal to government and GETFUND and our hardworking regional minister to consider our student hostel as a special case and do us a favor by allocating funds especially for that.” the Vice Chancellor indicated

“Equally important is the need to protect the University land against encroachment. We are therefore appealing again through the regional minister to government to come to our aid to achieve this.”
