MP implements clean up campaign to tidy up Wechiau

The Member of Parliament for Wa West, Peter Lanchene Toobu has introduced a clean up campaign to tidy up the Wa West District Capital, Wechiau.

According to him, the project dubbed “Keep Wechiau Clean” was meant to clean up the entire constituency to promote a healthy living across board.

The day started with a clean up exercise led by the Hon Member of Parliament and joined by the community members to clean around Wechiau township.

The unveiling ceremony was held at the forecourt of the Wechiau Chief Palace as part of activities to mark his birthday which was observed on the 8th of June, 2021.

Addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of Wechau traditional area, the MP underscored the importance of the project and urged the people to embrace the clean up project to keep the district clean.

“I am in Wechiau because I know the message I have resonates well with the people of Wichiau. I believe that cleanliness is next to Godliness. I believe in you and I believe the project will succeed.

According to him, the environment reflects the sanitation situation stating that “without good sanitation, the environment will disgrace you. What we see is what we are. How we think is what we are.”

“Keep your home clean, keep your yard clean. Keep your immediate surroundings clean. Keep your markets clean. And let’s keep Wichiau clean. It is doable.”

A giant billboard christened “Keep Wechiau Clean” was unveiled to the people as part of measures to propagate the project.

The Wa West district Manager for Zoomlion, Fuseini Saaka declared his suppprt for the project as it will better the lives of the people.

He urged the MP to implement similar projects across the district to ensure that the communities are clean.

Fuseini Saaka appealed to the MP to help them increase the number of zoomlion staff working in the district after it dropped from 400 staff to 110 staff.

Briefing the gathering on the security situation in the district, ASP Alexander Tang who is the Police Commander for Wechiau District bemoaned the limited number of police personnel and logistics at hand.

He used the opportunity to admonish the people to be collaborative in providing timely information to combat the menace of armed robbery.

Responding to the concerns raised by the Wechiau district police commander, Hon Peter Lanchene Toobu said he will liase with the relevant stakeholders to support the police with the necessary tools and logistics to fight against armed robbery and other untoward practices.

Peter Lanchene Toobu tasked the people to see security as a shared responsibility while encouraging them to collaborate with the police to flash out robbery.
