Completion of B.K Adama MYRC delayed by COVID-19 and Structural changes- Pius Hadzide

The schedule of work at the B.K Adama Multipurpose Youth Resource Center has been affected due to structural changes and COVID-19.

According to the CEO of the National Youth Authority, there were hopes that the project would have been completed and handed over but for the challenges faced by the world due to COVID-19.

The NYA CEO visited the region to meet with the contractor, consultant and the Regional Minister to work through a revised and expedited schedule of works and to tour the facility to identify what the next steps are, in order to meet the Minister’s instructions which reflects the president’s intent of completing the project.

Pius Hadzide noted that construction of the 10 youth resource centers have been re-strategized with Wa and other 4 construction sites been grouped into phase one for completion by the end of the year so that the other phase will finish next year.

He said the latest plan was to invest heavily in half of the resource centers including that of Wa in order to complete them in a timeous manner.

Pius Hadzide further said progress of work at the Wa Youth Resource Center is satisfactory and looks to be the first to be commissioned while urging contractors of the other sites to expedite and up their game.

“The consultants have informed us that indeed the phase 1 is complete and ripe for commissioning. You can play football here. The grass is moaned. The stands are all….. the seats are all fixed. But the phase 2 came to make the facility economically viable and self sustaining. We are working on it so that at some point we can probably take proceeds at the gate so that we can maintain the facility. So the phase 2 is also critical and important to us as far as maintaining the facility is concerned.”

“We are talking about commissioning relative to phase 1 and we could have gone ahead to actually commission the phase one. Nobody is wrong about the talk of a possible commissioning for the phase one. That is very well and in order. You can see that the phase has come up already, the walls are been plastered, the arc and the main entrance is under construction, the ticketing boots are under construction so there is some earth work that is still ongoing.”

“That is the only reason why we are asking for a few months before we do the grand commissioning of the whole project. We are quite excited at the output of the contractor. Work is going on and we are quite excited. However, we are also ceasing the opportunity to appeal to the contractor to expedite some more.”

“The people of Wa have waited. We are happy with what he is doing. We are pleading that he can expedite a little more but we also want to put on record that Wa is one if not the only… one of the few if not the first most advanced sites that we have and we want other contractors to also emulate the good example of HABK and also expedite and up their game so that at least the five centers that I spoke about earlier by the end of the year would have been commissioned all those five. Minister, be rest assured that Wa looks like the first of the facilities that we shall commission.”
