The Chief Executive Officer of National Youth Authority, Pius Enam Hadzide has revealed that the Wa Multipurpose Youth Resource Center is one of the most advanced sites and it is likely to be commissioned first.

The construction of the 10 Multipurpose Youth Resource Centers across the country was at the instance of President Akufo Addo to provide a safe and decent space for talents to be identified and tapped.

Thes NYA CEO made this known during a visit to the region to meet with the contractor, consultant and the Regional Minister to work through a revised and expedited schedule of works and to tour the facility to identify what the next steps are, in order to meet the Minister’s instructions which reflects the president’s intent of completing the project.

The work schedule for the 10 edifices have been hampered due to what the NYA CEO described as project growth and COVID-19.

“When the project was first conceived, it was smaller than it is now. It has now gown into a full fledged Multipurpose sports stadium. The project has been evolving and we concede that it is delayed.” He said.

According to him, the first phase of the project which consists of the pitch, tartan tracks, stands is 98 per cent complete while the second phase which consist of the entrance, fencing wall, drainages, ticketing boots and lighting is 45 per cent complete.

He said the first phase of the project is ready for commissioning but wants it to be commissioned with the second phase along the year.

“… the phase 2 came to make the facility economically viable and self sustaining. We are talking about it so that at some point we can probably take proceeds at the gate so that we can maintain facility. So the phase 2 is also critical and important to us as far as maintaining the facility is concerned.”

Pius Hadzide underscored the need for the completion of the whole project before commissioning as some people may confuse the ongoing phase 2 work to mean that the project is not complete.

The NYA CEO expressed his satisfaction about the progress of work as he urged other contractors to up their game and emulate HABK who is the contractor for the Wa facility saying  “Wa is one if not the only; one of the few if not the first, most advanced sites that we have.”

He, however, urged the contractor to expedite work as the people of the region have waited for long.
