Lambussie district receives infrastructural expansion

The District Chief Executive for Lambussie District Assembly, George Gerard Nalurig has disclosed that the Lambussie District has received massive infrastructural boost in the area of education as part of measures to improve the standards of education.

He made this known at the occasion of the celebration of the 65th Independence anniversary at Lambusie on the theme “Working Together Bouncing Back Better”.

The parade on the day saw seven (7) KG’s who took part in the march past with Future Leaders KG emerging as winners and Winners Academy KG as well as Lambusie D/A KG going home with the first and second runners up positions respectively.

For the primary school category, seven (7) Schools took part in the march past. Lambussie T.I primary took the the 1st position, Solid Rock Foundation had the 2nd position and Future Leaders primary took the 3rd position.

Lambussie D/A JHS was adjudged the winner for the JHS category as Kohuo D/A JHS and Solid Rock Foundation came 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Out of the three schools that participated in the match past in the SHS category, Lambussie Community Senior High school came out tops while Piina Senior High School came 2nd.

The winning schools recieved cash prizes, certificates and Veronica buckets.

According to the District Chief Executive, he is committed to improving the level of infrastructure in the educational sector citing some projects that have been undertaken to reduce the infrastructural gap in the district.

He said the construction of 1 No 3 Unit Classroom block with Ancillary facilities at Tapumu is in advanced stage of completion and 100 pieces of Hexagonal Desks, 800 Dual Desks have been distributed to address the furniture deficit in the district.

He said the Assembly has collaborated with the office of the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Hon. Bright Baligi to support brilliant but needy students to pursue various courses of study in Higher institutions of learning.

The District Chief Executive further bemoaned the low level of BECE performance in the district in spite of laudable interventions by government and the Assembly to promote quality education.

He described as regrettable a while adding that the BECE performance leaves much to be desired as he appealed to the teachers to be committed in order to help the children to become responsible in future.

He also urged the District Director of Education and staff with emphasis on the Circuit Supervisors to intensify supervision and monitoring so as to reverse the trend, adding that the Assembly is alarmed with the worsening performance of students at the BECE level.

The DCE added that he has instituted an award scheme to motivate students in the area and that the best two students in the 2020 BECE Examination have been awarded with a bag, books and mathematical sets. The two students are Kontoma Kimarth from Piina Junior High School and Dorothy Debkuu-Engmen Derzu from St. Mary R/C Junior High school.

The District Chief Executive explained that the district has benefited from the government flagship programmes such as the one district one hospital initiative (Agenda 111).

He noted that work has commenced and that the project will ultimately bring great transformation in the health sector when completed.
