Wa West Mp Calls On Chiefs To Be on the lookout for Terrorists In the Communities

The Member of Parliament for Wa West Constituency, Hon. Peter Lanchene Toobu has called on Chiefs to be on the lookout for terrorists in their Communities towards curbing terrorism.

He said, Chiefs are the custodians of the land who have the power to protect and prevent any unlawful entry into their communities by unknown people.

He noted that, some Chiefs deliberately allow unknown dwellers and foreigners to settle in the communities to serve their parochial interest.

The Member of Parliament made this known at a workshop organized by Equal Opportunity for Children and Aged (EOCA) with the Theme : Enhancing Dispute Resolution Skills of Traditional Leaders.

Addressing the gathering, the lawmaker said these unknown people in the communities can be a threat to residents and also bring disunity among the Chiefs and his people.

He however entreated the Chiefs in the area to be on the alert to report any individual who is a threat to peace and unity in their Communities.

The Chief executive officer for The Equal opportunity for Children and Aged (EOCA) Mr. Vaari Matthew in his address mentioned that, this NGO was formed in 2016 with the aim of supporting Children and the Aged for equal opportunity.

Aside the support given to Children and the Aged, the NGO also builds the capacity for Chiefs on dispute Resolution to bring peace and unity in their various areas.

He noted that, chieftancy dispute in some of our various traditional areas are the cause of disunity among people in the Communities.

He lamented on how Chieftancy dispute is retarding developmental projects in the various localities.

The special guest of honor, Prof. Kwesi Aning who is the Executive director for Faculty of Academic Affairs at Kofi Annan Peace Keeping Training Institute indicated that “no one can come from outside to attack and hurt this country, if we ourselves are not so weak internally”.

According to him, dispute and disunity is a threat to the lives of the people in the communities.
