The NPP has recognized you for 16 years; give way for others- NPP communicator to Bawumia

Mujeeb Rahman, a member of the NPP national communication team has advised Dr Mahmud Bawumia to step aside for others to also be recognized by the party.

He said Dr Mahmud Bawumia was not a member of the NPP before 2008 but has since achieved more than people who have been in the party before he was first chosen as running mate.

He made this known on Sunrise Upper West, a morning show on Home Radio on Monday, 11th July, 2022.

Speaking on Dr Bawumia’s ambition of becoming the presidential candidate for the NPP, Mujeeb Osei as he is known by his peers said “If you were a governor of the Bank of Ghana and as at 2008 you did not have a membership card of the NPP. That clearly signifies that you were not a member of the NPP but the party constitution allows what we call a waiver”

“As at the time Nana Addo picked Bawumia as running mate, he wasn’t qualified under article 12 but because we were in opposition, a waiver was extended.”

“16 years as vice presidential candidate and vice president is enough achievement. People like Asamoah Boateng, Boakye Agyako, Atta Kennedy, Kwabena Agyapong and many others were in the party before Bawumia and deserve to be rewarded..”

He called on the party hierarchy to work in the interest of the party and stop the hypocrisy of supporting candidates who are obviously not the right choice but for parochial interest.

He described Dr Bawumia as easy an walk candidate for John Mahama of the NDC based on the poor performance of the economy which sent Ghana to the IMF under his watch saying “why do we risk. Let’s stop the hypocracy.”

So far, five stalwarts of the NPP have made public their intentions to lead the party.

There have been lots of talks about who leads the NPP in the next election, familiar names like Vice President Dr. Bawumia, Minister for Trade and Industry Alan Kyerematen have all sprung up.

Some names also tipped to run for the NPP flagbearership position when President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s tenure ends include the Minister of Agriculture Dr. Afriyie Akoto, former Energy Minister Boakye Kyerematen Agyarko, and former Railway Development Minister Joe Ghartey.
