NHIA holds nationwide blood donation exercise to commemorate 20 years anniversary

To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has organized a nationwide blood donation drive. The exercise aims to collect blood from voluntary staff to help save lives in various health facilities across the country.

The Deputy CEO in charge of HR and administration, Dr.Mrs. Yaa Pokuaa Baiden, who is also the chairperson for the 2D Committee noted during the launch at the Authority’s head office in Accra that the blood donation exercise is part of the Authority’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to give back to society. She emphasized the importance of individuals developing the habit of donating blood regularly to help satisfy the need for blood in the health sector.

According to the Deputy CEO in Charge of HR and Admin, the NHIS’s 20th anniversary is an important milestone, and the Authority is taking advantage of the occasion to educate Ghanaians on the necessity of obtaining health insurance. She advised Ghanaians to register with the NHIS to have access to healthcare.

Dr. Mrs. Yaa Pokuaa Baiden later participated in the blood donation drive at the Dome District, CPC Accra, and Regional offices. The staff expressed their appreciation to management for organizing this activity as a way for them to give back to their community. She encouraged Ghanaians to frequently donate blood in order to save lives and congratulated the volunteer donors, which included Mr. Alexander Eldad Nkrumah, the oldest employee of the NHIA, for their generosity.

The NHIA partnered with the National Blood Bank to ensure that the blood collected is safe and meets the required standards.

The nationwide blood donation drive is a representation of the scheme’s collective dedication to have a positive impact on society, with each pint donated serving as a brushstroke. The donation exercise is dubbed “20 Years of Care, One Pint at a Time: Donate for Life!”.
