More than 100 kids are not enrolled in school at Sigiyiri

More than 100 children of school going age in Sigiyiri in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region are unable to attend school due to a lack of educational facilities in the area.

The rural village of Sigiyiri, which is part of the Varepare, lacks access to healthcare facilities to meet their medical needs.

The residents told the Home Radio News team that despite their children’s desire to attend school, they cannot provide them with education because there is no school block for them to attend.

The residents claim that Varepare is the closest community for their kids to attend school, but they are unable to do so since a wide valley separates the two settlements and is challenging for the kids to travel during the rainy season.

They express worry on the difficulties and dangers they encounter as residents in navigating through the bridge between the community and Varepare.

They complained that during the wet season, it is difficult for locals, particularly pregnant women, to traverse the bridge to Varepare for medical treatment.

They continued by saying that because of the valley and lack of alternate routes, farmers are unable to transfer their produce to surrounding marketplaces.

Numerous requests are made to those in charge, but nothing is done to improve the situation for these kids in terms of their education.

They are so concerned about the education of their children and the welfare of the community that they are pleading with the Wa West District Assembly, MP Peter Lanchene Toobu, and philanthropists to assist them in meeting these urgent needs in the neighborhood.
