In order to fight terrorism, the Ministry of Defense is putting three forward operating bases in the area, according to the Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih.

He claims that as part of efforts to protect the area, the three bases will be constructed in the municipal and district assemblies in Sissala East, Lambusie, and Jirapa.

These were disclosed by Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih during a meeting with Harriet Thompson, the British High Commissioner for Ghana, on Tuesday, August 18, 2022.

The Minister emphasized the necessity for the UK to provide assistance to Ghana’s security forces in order to stop terrorist activity by claiming that extremist and terrorist activities in Burkina Faso and other Sahelian nations pose a threat to Ghana.

“We have 600 uniformed military officials in the Upper West Region to make the region safe. The MOD is putting up three forward operating bases in Upper West in Sissala East, Lambusie and Jirapa. That is not enough because we still have some districts that are without forward operating bases and we are appealing to our developing partners to help us get more forward operating bases.” the Minister said.

“We believe strongly that the collaboration our country has with your country, will be able to enable our men in uniform to curtail terrorist activities.”

Despite the government’s policy of “Ghana beyond aid” the Minister insisted that this does not negate Ghana’s need for support from the UK and other developed nations.

Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih urged the British High Commissioner for Ghana to provide assistance to the area in the fields of agriculture, health, and education in order to strengthen the region’s human resource base and advance agricultural endeavors.

The British High Commissioner for Ghana, Harriet Thompson, stated that her visit to the 16 administrative districts of Ghana was a part of her mission to become familiar with their diverse cultures and histories as well as to comprehend the security situation and development history of the different areas.

She claims that by having a thorough understanding of the nation, she will be able to utilize the two nations’ alliance to its full potential.

She announced that she will travel to places including Gwolu, Jirapa, Nandom, and Lambusie as part of her tour, where she will meet with chiefs, political figures, and academics to understand the regional objectives.
