Wa School for the deaf struggles to feed pupils

Inadequate and delayed food supply to Wa School for the Deaf has been a major challenge inhibiting the smooth implementation of special education in the Upper West Region.

The Headmaster of the school, Mr Sylvester Bayor, says the struggle to feed students affects the effectiveness of managing the school.

The school is in a critical situation to get access to foodstuff from suppliers to feed over 200 hearing-impaired children because of the delay to release the feeding grants by the government.

Interacting with the Headmaster of the School, Mr. Sylvester Bayor admitted that, the issue of poor and inadequate feeding of students in the school is unbearable while dismissing claims that they are responsible for the situation.

He said the school is a non-fee-paying institution and it relies solely on funding from the central government, which is often not regular.

He insisted that feeding grants have not been paid since January 2023 and that the school owed suppliers huge sums of money in arrears.

Mr. Sylvester used the opportunity to appeal for immediate support from the government through the Upper West Regional Minister to salvage the school from the situation.
