In a surprising turn of events, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has apologized to Mrs. Gifty Jiagge-Gobah, Clerk to the Appointments Committee, for labeling her as partisan. This apology comes after Afenyo-Markin accused Jiagge-Gobah of carrying out her duties like “a typical NDC member”.
Speaking in Parliament on February 4, Afenyo-Markin expressed remorse for his earlier statements, saying, “I unreservedly apologise to her. I also apologise to her husband and children as well as her relatives who have been emotionally affected by my utterances.”
Afenyo-Markin’s apology is a significant development, especially considering the Chairman of the Appointments Committee, Bernard Ahiafor, had earlier apologized to Jiagge-Gobah on behalf of the Committee, stating that she had done nothing to warrant such verbal attacks ².
