The Ministry of the Interior has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Hamile Township and its surrounding communities in the Lambussie District of Ghana’s Upper West Region, effective immediately.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, the ministry announced that the Minister for the Interior, acting on the advice of the National Security Council and by Executive Instrument, ordered the restriction from 6:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. daily.
The government has also placed a total ban on the carrying of arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons in Hamile Township and its environs. Anyone found in possession of such items will be arrested and prosecuted.
Authorities urged chiefs, opinion leaders, the youth, and residents of the area to exercise restraint amid the challenges facing the community and to channel their grievances through non-violent means to help ensure peace.
The measures follow a deadly explosion earlier the same day involving a motor tricycle suspected of carrying dynamite. The blast killed one officer of the Ghana Immigration Service and left another critically injured. Reports indicate the incident occurred along an unapproved route and involved individuals suspected of links to illegal mining activities.
Security personnel have been deployed to the border town area as efforts continue to restore calm and address underlying concerns.
