A police post located near the Asempaneye Forest in the Western North Region has been destroyed by fire in an incident that is currently under investigation.
The Assembly Member for the Asempaneye Electoral Area, Shadrack Oppong Mintah, said he was alerted to the incident after receiving a call from motorists and other road users who noticed the facility engulfed in flames.
According to him, he rushed to the scene and found that the police post had been extensively damaged by the fire. He observed that portions of the structure appeared to have been deliberately damaged, raising suspicions that the blaze may have been an act of arson.
Mr. Oppong Mintah said some residents have speculated that the incident could be connected to the recent shooting at Sefwi Sayerano, where two people lost their lives during a confrontation between police officers and residents. He noted that some youth may have sought retaliation following the incident.
However, he stressed that there is currently no official evidence linking the fire to the Sefwi Sayerano incident, and the claims remain unverified.
The Assembly Member further disclosed that witnesses reportedly saw some individuals around the police post shortly before the fire broke out. Two police motorbikes stationed at the facility were also destroyed in the blaze.
Authorities are yet to commence formal investigations to establish the cause of the fire and identify those responsible. Police have not issued an official statement on the incident at the time of filing this report.
