All is set in the Upper West Region for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries scheduled for tomorrow, Saturday, January 31, 2026, as a total of 7,650 accredited delegates prepare to cast their ballots at 12 polling centres across the region.

Speaking on Home Radio’s Tegyaayala programme, the Upper West Regional Director of Communications of the NPP, Nana Ahmed Sadat, confirmed the region’s readiness and outlined the distribution of delegates by constituency:

Wa Central – 1,148

Wa West – 757

Wa East – 686

Daffiama-Bussie-Issa – 401

Jirapa – 777

Lawra – 520

Sissala West – 535

Sissala East – 659

Nadowli Kaleo – 657

Lambussie – 457

Nandom – 503

The total number of delegates, he noted, reflects the party’s expanded electoral college for the primaries.

Voting will begin at 7:00 a.m. and end at 2:00 p.m., with each constituency serving as a polling centre. Additional arrangements have been made in constituencies with larger delegate numbers, particularly Wa Central, in line with national party guidelines.

Nana Ahmed Sadat appealed to delegates and party supporters to adhere strictly to the rules governing the exercise, emphasizing peace, discipline, and fairness throughout the process. He also urged party members to unite behind whoever emerges victorious, stressing that cohesion will be key to strengthening the NPP ahead of future elections.

Across the country, over 211,000 delegates are expected to vote at 333 centres to elect the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections. Five aspirants are contesting the position: former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Kwabena Agyei Agyepong.

The NPP leadership has assured members of a transparent and peaceful process, with security solely managed by the Ghana Police Service. Proxy voting has been prohibited, and strict rules—including a ban on mobile phones at polling stations—will be enforced.

Eligible delegates include polling station executives, constituency and regional officers, elders, patrons, former party executives, and other qualified members. Party officials have confirmed that all logistical and security preparations in the Upper West Region and nationwide have been completed to ensure a smooth and incident-free exercise.
