UWR: Youth Advisory Board Sensitizes Students on Proper Mental Health

A youth advocacy group, Youth Advisory Board, working with Plan International have sensitised some students in the Upper West Region on proper mental health.

The group under the theme: “counselling adolescent and children on mental health”, embark on the mental health sensitization program for students in Kperisi, Sagu, Chegli and Nyagli, on Thursday 14th October 2021.

Students in these communities within the Upper West Region were educated on the importance of abstaining from acts considered to be hazardous to the brain which include drug abuse.

Guest Speaker, Doris Siibu a nurse at the Wa Municipal Hospital highlighted the negatives of drugs abuse as a common factor that contributes to mental imbalance or malfunctioning.

Madam Doris stated that the future of individuals indulging in drug abuse should desist as there is the threat of them collapsing if there is addiction.

She also advised the students to examine the choice of friends they mingle with, and further avoid peer pressure.

Leader of the group, Youth Advisory Board Mr Zakaria Bilal called on Parents and guardians to encourage the students to desist from the various forms of harmful drugs and urged the students to live by what they learned at the event today.

He further implored them to take sensitization events seriously to improve their lives morally and intellectually.

The group, Youth Advisory Board is based in Upper West Region and is targeted at building a safer community for youth and children.
