Uplifting the Unsung Heroes: UWR Hospital Spotlights Employee Dedication in Inaugural Awards Gala

The management of the Upper West Regional Hospital celebrated its maiden staff awards scheme, named the Upper West Regional Hospital Staff Awards, on Saturday, January 13, 2024, with the theme: “Celebrating Our Hardworking Staff.”

The awards scheme was instituted by the management of the Upper West Regional Hospital led by its Medical Director Dr. Robert Amesiya, in 2021 as a motivational package to honor hardworking and dedicated staff, recognize outstanding performance at both individual and various units, and celebrate their contributions to the progress of the hospital.

In a welcome address, Medical Director Dr. Robert Amesiya expressed profound gratitude for welcoming staff and invited guests to the event. He acknowledged the challenges faced since the hospital’s commissioning, emphasizing the significant contributions of the staff in overcoming obstacles.

Dr. Robert highlighted that, despite starting without seed capital, the hospital is among the best regional hospitals in the country, both in terms of equipment and staff performance.

He noted that in the four years of operation, four staff members have received national recognition under the secondary category, elevating the status of the hospital.

The purpose of the gathering, Dr. Robert stated, is to motivate staff for excellent care provision, contributing to the realization of universal health coverage dream by collaborating with Ghana Health Service and other Ministry of Health agencies.

He encouraged staff not receiving awards this time to remain undeterred, urging them to strive for recognition in the next awards cycle. Dr. Robert extended appreciation to supporters and partners for contributing to the success of the 2023 annual staff awards ceremony.

The Upper West Regional Director of Ghana Health Services, Dr. Damien Punguyire, congratulated the awardees while urging them to continue to work hard in order to make the hospital the number one facility in the country. He commended the management of the hospital for implementing measures to reduce power consumption to support the operations of the facility.

The Special Guest of Honour, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, emphasized the priority of the hospital and commended the efforts of Dr. Damien Punguyire and Dr. Robert Amesiya for their contributions to the health sector.

Dr. Hafiz donated GHC 2,000 to the overall winner, Mr. Agyekum Reagan, and GHC 1,000 to the second runner-up, Madam Zeinab Salih.

Several staff members received certificates, and special awards were given to stakeholders like the Upper West Regional Minister and the Overlord of the Wala Traditional Council for their contributions to the hospital’s progress.
