As part of the efforts to improve environmental sanitation in the region, The Wa Municipal Assembly led by the Coordinating Director Mr. Adams Imoro has called on the Upper West media to support in propagating the announcement of the reintroduction of the National Sanitation Day as government plans to curb the sanitation issue in the Country. The official launch of the program by the government will come off on the 3rd of April, 2025 to allow the various assemblies within the Country to continue with the exercise in every Saturday of the month.
Mr. Adams was speaking during an engagement with some journalists within the municipality in his office on Friday 29 March, 2025. He stated that the initiative aligns with the government’s “Clean Up Ghana” agenda.
The Director emphasised that sanitation and waste management would be a keynote of the assembly and for all residents, stressing the need for a more competitive and responsible approach to environmental cleanliness in the Municipality. With that reason according the director, the media has a very significant role to play in achieving the success of the initiative to curb the poor sanitation issue in the township.
He added that, the media stations in the Municipality can use their Airways and platforms to help in public announcements, radio discussions and interviews with the various stakeholders particularly the assembly members across the Municipality.
The assembly by-laws according to the director will be re-inforced to deal with anyone that disobey the rules and regulations of the laws particularly the monthly cleaning -up campaign. He assured that, the assembly will make the refuse-dump containers available for the various dumping sites in the electoral areas across the Municipality.
He further expressed worry about the filthiness of some part of the Municipality and then urging the various media stations in the Municipality to strongly support the assembly to carry out this initiative for it success.
The coordinator uses the opportunity to call on all residents and stakeholders especially politicians to allow the by-laws to work and deal with culprits without interference.
