Hon. Salifu Yakubu has formally declared his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries for the Wa East Constituency ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the former NPP parliamentary candidate said the decision was driven by “clarion calls from the constituency” and his commitment to strengthening party structures, deepening unity, and advancing a shared vision for Wa East.
“I have served this party faithfully from the grassroots to the region. I served as NPP Upper West Regional Deputy Organizer and Parliamentary Candidate for Wa East in the 2020 general elections,” Yakubu stated.
He described his offer to lead as one rooted in “humility, dedication, and a strong spirit of service,” adding that the time had come to unite the party, energise its base, and reclaim the Wa East seat for the NPP.
“Now is the time to unite. Now is the time to energise our base. Now is the time to bring our seat back to NPP,” he said.
Yakubu appealed for encouragement, guidance, and support from party members and stakeholders as he works to build “a stronger, more vibrant, and winning Wa East.”
The declaration comes well ahead of the official opening of nominations for the 2028 parliamentary primaries. Yakubu previously contested the seat for the NPP in the 2020 general elections.
