The Member of Parliament for Lawra Constituency, Hon. Bede A. Ziedeng, has supported 660 brilliant but needy tertiary students in the Lawra Municipality with an amount of over Ghc785,000 since 2021.
The MP disclosed this when he delivered his stewardship report at the General Meeting of the Lawra Municipal Assembly on Monday. This was his first general meeting since his re-election for a second term in the December 2024 general elections.
According to Hon. Ziedeng, the support is under his flagship programme of providing partial scholarships to brilliant but needy students to help build human capital in the constituency.
He said each beneficiary received between Ghc1,000 and Ghc2,000 to support payment of part of their school fees. The beneficiaries are drawn from Nursing Training Colleges, Colleges of Education, Universities, Technical Universities and Technical and Vocational Institutions.

The MP described the intervention as the highest amount ever contributed by any MP in the history of Lawra constituency in support of students.
Hon. Ziedeng said his 13-page address to the Assembly was to give an account of his stewardship over the last two years, noting that public officials are accountable to their people.
“Some people have been calling upon me to give an account of my stewardship on WhatsApp platforms, that is not the appropriate platform. I account to you the representatives of the people in this assembly, that account can then be carried to various WhatsApp platforms and other media platforms,” he stated.
He recalled that two meetings were called last year for the endorsement of the late MCE Alhaji Mazu Adams and the confirmation of the current MCE, but those were not general meetings.
On other education interventions, the MP said since 2021 he has been providing mathematical sets for BECE candidates, which this year cost about Ghc30,000, supported the Ghana Education Service with Ghc20,000 to conduct mock examinations, provided feeding for students writing WASSCE at Babile SHS, and supported the Tambara community with Ghc15,000 to renovate the Tambara JHS/TVET school, which is expected to attain boarding status.
He then assured the Assembly of his continuous commitment to education and human capital development in the Lawra Municipality.
