The Member of Parliament (MP) for Lawra Constituency, Hon. Bede A. Ziedeng, on Thursday, 28 May, 2026, commissioned an ultra-modern kindergarten (KG) block with a lighting system for the people of Zukpire and Faalu communities. The project is designed to confront a long-standing educational challenge by bringing early childhood education directly to the community. As a result, children aged four years will no longer be required to travel long distances to neighboring communities such as Kalsagri in order to access preschool education. Before this intervention, children in Zukpire were compelled to trek to the nearby Kalsegra community to attend early childhood schooling.
Hon. Ziedeng noted that the commissioning of the KG block forms part of his broader commitment to improving educational infrastructure and teaching and learning in the district through the use of his common fund. This initiative, which costs over Ghc 200,000, is also in fulfilment of a promise he made during his political campaign in 2016 to construct a KG facility for the community. He assured the Chiefs and the people of Zukpire that the new KG block would be complemented with additional auxiliary facilities, including water, a fence wall, and a toilet unit, to enhance the overall learning environment.
In addition, he indicated that, through consistent efforts and dedication, he has provided financial support to 520 students, amounting to over Ghc 600,000, since he assumed office. The support has covered portions of their school fees and other related expenses. He further stated that plans are underway to construct another KG block for other communities that have similar needs in due course, emphasising that his focus remains on delivering tangible development and livelihood support to the people of the constituency.
The MP commended both the assembly and the community for their collective role in ensuring the successful completion of the project for the benefit of present and future learners. He also expressed satisfaction with the quality and good workmanship delivered by the contractor.
In her remarks, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Mad. Cecilia Soyelleh, thanked the MP for the kind gesture extended through the provision of facilities under his Common Fund, describing it as a complement to the Assembly’s efforts to improve school infrastructure across the district. She urged the Ghana Education Service (GES) staff to cultivate a maintenance culture to help preserve the lifespan of the block for generations to come. The MCE also encouraged parents and guardians to patronise the facility by sending their children to benefit from the learning opportunities it provides.
The Lawra Municipal Director of Education, Mr. Francis Kojo, who was present at the event, assured the MP, the MCE, the Chiefs, and the people of Zukpire that the school would commence this 2026/2027 academic year.
The Chiefs and the assembly member expressed deep gratitude and excitement for the initiative. They acknowledged that, while the community continues to face some challenges—such as issues relating to the road network and health concerns—this KG project represents a significant milestone towards improving the lives and education of children in the area.
