The Upper West Region , has experienced an improved security situation, with reports indicating a significant reduction in crime due to enhanced, intelligence-led police operations in the region. The regional Public relations officer from the Ghana Police service of the public Affairs Unit, Sergeant Abdulai Rashid indicated that, crime in the region has significantly reduced from 45 in 2024 to 26 in 205 representing 42.2 percent.
Sergt. Mr. Abdulai Rashid made this statement on behalf of the Regional Police Command as the regional Public relations officer in the region during Home Radio “Big issues morning show” on Wednesday 13 May, 2026. He said, through the effort of the Ghana Police service under the good leadership of the regional Police Commander DCOP Francis Yiribaare has able to make several arrests and prosecuted some individuals into jails across the region who involved themselves into robberies. According to the Sergeant, the recent programmes and policies initiated by the regional Police leadership of the Commander are making significant impact in the region to curtail the crime situation across the region particularly the robbery cases.
On the issue of Drugs abuse and trading, he mentioned that the regional command in collaboration with the Municipal and District commands have arrested and seized several kilograms of Indian hemps, Marijuana and other hard related illicit substances. The Ghana Police service in the region will not spare anybody who is caught selling or taking these illicit substances and drugs in the region.
The Public relations officer, however used the opportunity to advise and call on the general public in the region to desist from the illicit substances abusing and drugs selling to avoid being arrested for proscuition.
