The Upper West Region has been without a premier league club since the sale of Wa All Stars which has metamorphosed into Legon Cities based in Accra.

Delivering a promise of GHS 10,000 to Wa Suntaa SC on Wednesday, 15th December, 2021, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih said the region deserves a premier league club while noting that he will provide the needed support to increase the number of division one clubs in the region.

The Minister has been supporting the football community for the past 6 months in many folds towards nurturing talents and cushioning clubs to get over some of the challenges threatening the area of soccer.

He has previously provided clubs with jerseys, balls and an amount of GHS 10,000 which was shared among the champion, the first and second runner up of the 2020/2021 Upper West Division yet league.

Dr Hafiz Bin Salih described football as the passion of the region and pledged to help preserve the many talents dotted across the region.

“You will recall that a few years ago, the Upper West Region used to have a premiership club known as Upper West Heroes later. Later we had Wa AllStars, but currently we are a region without a premier league club. I want to support the football clubs in the region so that in the shortest possible time, we will have a premiership club in the Upper West Region. With the talent abound in the region, I am convinced that if we are able to support these clubs, sooner than later, we should have a premiership club in the Upper West Region.” he said

The Upper West Region has been struggling to maintain more division one clubs due to diverse problems including financial constraints.

But the Minister was confident that the narrative could be changed if the needed support is given to the clubs.
