Mr Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs has assured Ghanaians to look forward to an ‘unprecedented’ level of development within the next four years.
He said the period of President John Dramani Mahama’s led National Democratic Congress (NDC) would be a “golden age of development”, and aid the government welcomed the contribution and support of everybody, regardless of their political orientation.
Mr Ibrahim also the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Banda Constituency in the Bono Region said inclusivity is true embodiment of democracy and a core principle of the NDC to facilitate accelerated national development.
He said disunity, backbiting, and petty squabbles would derail the course of progressive national development and called for national unity to drive the wheels of development.
Mr Ibrahim gave the assurance when addressing a meeting of the Banda District Assembly at Banda Ahenkro when the Assembly confirmed President Mahama’s nominee, Mr Peter Dongi as the Banda District Chief Executive (DCE).
The President nominee received an unanimous acceptance from the 19-member assembly, polling 100 percent ‘yes’ votes in an election conducted and supervised by the Electoral Commission.
Mr Ibrahim said the government remains committed to carry everybody along with the nation’s development processes and urged the youth to remain focused, make informed decisions and support development course.
The MP asked the DCE to prioritise development and urged the people to support him towards putting in place strategies that would bring the development of the district to the next level.
Mr Ibrahim said so far, the government had nominated the various Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives for 13 regions, saying the remaining three regions would be done soon.
He said the government was committed to deepen the decentralisation process, adding that the successful nominations and subsequent confirmations of the MMDCEs signified cohesiveness in advancing the nation’s decentralisation system.
