The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has come under fire for its decision to embark on a “Thank You Tour” following its resounding defeat in the 2024 general elections. Political scientist Dr. Richard Amoako Baah has criticized the move, describing it as “not good” and questioning the rationale behind thanking supporters after a “colossal defeat.”
According to Dr. Amoako Baah, the party’s leadership should instead be apologizing and engaging in introspection to identify the factors that contributed to its loss. “When you lose this colossally, you don’t go on a Thank You Tour. No, thank you for what? For not voting for me?” he quipped.
The NPP’s Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, has defended the tour, stating that it aims to reorganize the party, address mistakes, and galvanize supporters. The tour, led by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, is scheduled to start on April 26 and will see the party leadership traveling across the country to express appreciation to its supporters.
However, Dr. Amoako Baah’s criticism highlights the challenges the NPP faces in rebuilding its image and regaining the trust of its supporters. As the party embarks on this new initiative, it remains to be seen whether the “Thank You Tour” will achieve its intended objectives or further exacerbate the party’s internal divisions.
